The holidays have a way of sneaking up on us. One minute it is Thanksgiving, and the next you have a full house, a turkey in the oven and a guest room that still holds three boxes of summer gear.
The good news is that a holiday-ready home does not take one exhausting weekend. It takes a plan. Here is a simple timeline to spread the work out, so you can actually enjoy the season.
Six to Eight Weeks Out: Declutter and Book
This is the time to clear space and lock in help.
- Go room by room and remove anything you have not used in a year
- Donate toys and clothes before new gifts arrive
- Clear the guest room, spare beds and closets
- Decide which rooms guests will see and use
- Book your holiday cleaning now
That last point is the one most people miss. Late November and December are the busiest weeks of the year for cleaning companies across the Fraser Valley. Schedules fill quickly, and last-minute openings are hard to find. Booking early means you get the date that works for you, not whatever is left over.
Three to Four Weeks Out: The Deep Clean
This is the ideal time for a top-to-bottom clean. It is close enough to the holidays to count, but far enough out that you are not stressed about it.
A deep clean covers the jobs that guests notice but regular cleaning skips:
- Baseboards, door frames and light switches
- Inside the oven, microwave and fridge, ready for holiday cooking
- Bathroom grout, fixtures and exhaust fans
- Ceiling fans, vents and light fixtures
- Window sills and tracks

One to Two Weeks Out: Guest Prep
Now focus on the spaces your visitors will use.
- Wash guest bedding and towels and set them out
- Stock the guest bathroom with soap, toilet paper and a spare toothbrush
- Clear counter space in the kitchen for holiday cooking
- Make room in the fridge for leftovers
- Clear the entryway for extra coats, boots and gifts
The Week Of: Touch-Ups Only
If the earlier steps are done, this week should be easy. Stick to quick tasks:
- Wipe down kitchen and bathroom surfaces
- Vacuum high-traffic areas and the entryway
- Take out the garbage and recycling
- Set out fresh hand towels
Many of our clients book a light residential clean a day or two before guests arrive. You walk into the busiest week of the year with a fresh home and zero stress.
Do Not Forget the After-Party
The holidays end, and the mess stays. Crumbs under the table, spills on the carpet and a fridge full of leftovers can make January feel heavy.
A post-holiday clean is a great way to reset your home for the new year. If you book it at the same time as your pre-holiday clean, you will not have to think about it again.
